My only takeaway is the 90s is the goat decade for movies, and imo it’s not close.
I know some people will say the 70s, but 90s for me is the tits.

Just for reference I wanted to compare this ranking to a more comprehensive one that uses thousands of critic polls/rankings to create it's own. It ranks the Top 1000 movies ever made. There are some unforgivable omissions on the TSPDT ranking (like "Harvey" for one), but I still think it's the best of it's kind. I've mentioned it here several times and think it's a great tool for recs, especially the 21st century ranking. I promise I'm not associated with the site.
This would be TSPDT's ranking for 90s movies:
1. Goodfellas (No. 70 on the list)
2. Pulp Fiction
3. Close-Up
4. Santantango
5. Beau Travail
6. A Brighter Summer Day
7. Histoire du cinema
8. The Piano
9. Fargo
10. Chunking Express
11. Breaking the Waves
12. Unforgiven
13. The Thin Red Line
14. Schindler's List
15. The Big Lebowski
16. Groundhog's Day
17. Magnolia
18. Three Colors: Red
19. Three Colors: Blue
20. The Matrix
21. Underground
22. The Puppetmaster
23. All About My Mother
24. Reservoir Dogs
25. Quince Tree of the Sun
26. Days of Being Wild
27. Heat
28. Eyes Wide Shut
29. Happy Together
30. The Silence of the Lambs (No. 350 on the list)
The rankings are somewhat similar. The two rankings differ on Boogie Nights, Safe and few others. SOTL and Eyes Wide Shut are at the bottom of the 30, instead of both being in the top 5 like the subject ranking.
Shawshank is No. 420 out of 1,000. That's high praise. Terminator 2 is No. 531. Forrest Gump is No. 519. All three would be in the top 50ish. I grew up on T2, that's my pick for most underrated but I haven't seen several of the 90's films that it's ranked behind; Close-Up, The Piano, Breaking the Waves to name a few.
