We're going to do this in part of our basement/garage soon. Going to finish out a couple of areas and one is going to be my home office. I was thinking of putting down the foam/rubber floor pieces that click together like a puzzle, but my wife wants to stain the whole area and I'll just use my standing mat at my desk. From everything I've read, treat it like painting or staining anything else, and the prep work is key. Clean it really well, sometimes using a wax remover or other product to clean it. Ours is somewhat of a smooth finish, and I'm going to use a scrub brush to really clean it before staining. After that, just spray on or brush/roll, then stay off of it a few days before vacuuming it off and applying a sealer.
