I have about a 20’ long fence I want to plant some jasmine to grow on.

I’d like the vines to cover the whole fence, how many plants should I plant? Would one be enough to or should it be multiple?

I don’t want it overran and I also don’t mind waiting if one plant would work, and just take a while

I would think 3 would be fine in your situation. It would still take a while for them to reach each other so you had full coverage. Any time I have seen it on a fence though it hasn't been overran, just a nice cover (unless the owners were really good about thinning it out.

Make sure you get confederate jasmine, not asiatic Jasmine.
3-6 plans will do fine. You don’t have to plant at the very edge of the fence, so come in about 3 feet from the end of your fence with your first plant.

Depends how long you want to wait for the vine to cover the fence. One plant will never cover it all. The more you plant the faster the coverage (duh).

When planting, train (tie) the vines shoots in a horizontal direction staying near the bottom of the fence. As the vine grows, it will travel up the fence and cover better.

It takes several years for good coverage.

The previous owner of our house planted jasmine along the back fence, which is wood frame, wire mesh. 100 ft. section and he planted 4 plants evenly spaced out. It was filling in well before I removed it.

Would confederate jasmine grow well on a cinder block wall? We have one on the side of the house that's painted, but still unsightly. Would love to get some cover on it.

I've got about 120' fence I just planted 12 Confederate Jasmine on a couple of days ago. I used the fence post as spacers for mine (roughly eight feet apart). I might do some in between but not sure yet.

Any other tips on this? Do I have to keep tying it as it grows?

If I have 3 plants, I should get 3 trellises, right?

You could always attach a trellis to the wall.

3-6

6 feels like a ton for 20’

Could probably be well served with 2, 5 ft on from the edge and 10 feet between
