Why don’t people on this board slam Walmart? They had more to do with destroying mill town American than any other corporation out there. And to do it, they targeted the people whose jobs they were destroying as they snapped up massive percentages of the retail market share in rural America (and they take so much advantage of the welfare programs in this country that their employees that make $10/hour have to rely on to survive).

We live in a market economy where companies compete to win.
Walmart was able to offer consumers products at lower prices. They won. And consumers benefited.
Nobody has a right to a job.

I have a hard time seeing how their consumers benefited in the long run.

Because they are the backbone to my regions society. They give to education, arts, food, athletics, and many other types of things. They also allow for other companies to provide goods by being a central vendor at low costs.
Also were you bitching about Sears or Kresge?
And the idiot that downvoted has no clue about what Walmart does in philanthropy

Walmart is a major reason the US has the relationship with China today, which involved crushing the manufacturing sector

They provide inexpensive products that raise the quality of life in a less costly fashion for a broader scale of people. Sorry to a few mama papa shops, but their business didn’t provide nearly the same service from a cost-benefit perspective.

Are you serious? You must be dumb to believe that. KMart opened the door to Chinese made products. You do know Sam used to sit in Fayetteville K Mart to watch how they did things.
Walmart used to also hire all the ex KMart management

They don’t make the products. China does / or did

Fractional reserve lending and fiat currency killed small business. Walmart just took dvntage if it better than most.

Consumers are free to shop where they prefer. On average, they prefer lower prices. Walmart affords them that preference. This increases consumer surplus. The net gain in consumer surplus likely outweighs the net loss in producer surplus. If you really want to bitch about competitive outcomes you should do so on the legal side of things.

K-Mart lost out because they sucked at the China game. Walmart was really the first major driving force that connected cheap Chinese goods to the American markets in mass.

You really are clueless about Walmart and K Mart histories then. KMart lost out due to bad management and Walmart taking over where they drove out Oklahoma Tire and Supply then going in buying merchandise from same vendors that KMart did in bigger quantities and retagging it much like how Nike did with Powers Athletics.

Sure, you’re right. Substitute provide instead of make.

The nineties called and want their talking point back.
The modern version of what you are bitching about is Amazon.

I don’t disagree at all. I just feel like Trump Nation should be extremely anti-Walmart based on the model they built their company on and their strong historical ties to Chinese manufacturing.
