Wearing anything to protect yourself, short of a properly fitted respirator is counterproductive. I stand by it.

Counterproductive? Yea you don’t have any evidence of that.

People were wearing masks in 1918

Do you have to touch your face to put on, adjust or remove a mask?

The problem with Karen is they are usually fun at the bar or on the yacht and in the sack they are savages.....but they are hell to talk to and deal with in real life situations.

No, i don’t touch my face at all to put on a N95. And if I have to adjust it I use a glove or wash my hands after. When I remove it I do not touch the mask, just the straps.

Do some people screw that up? Probably. But remember it doesn’t have to protect every single person to be effective. It’s about reducing infections on a community level.

How'd that work out for them?

They had no idea how anything like that worked. They barely understood the chemical weapons they were using.

They had barely even discovered viruses at that point and had zero idea how they spread or how to stop them.

Well, then you know what the frick you're doing AND you're wearing a mask that can protect you if properly used.

The millions of Kevins and Karens out there do not know what they're doing AND they're not wearing a mask that can protect them (but they think they are).

How do viruses spread in hair/nail salons, but not in Wal-Mart?

This is not about controlling this pandemic. It's about controlling behavior.

Period. Full stop.

You are completely misunderstanding my point. Masks don’t have to eliminate ALL infections to be recommended.

I’m not advocating it be a law. Do what you want. But you should probably stop spreading false information that masks don’t work.

That’s like saying seatbelts don’t work. People still die in car accidents. And if you wear them wrong you are more likely to die, but do we say seatbelts don’t work because some people still die?

I'm not spreading false anything. A face covering that is not a properly fitted respirator does NOTHING for the wearer's infection risk. Probably less than nothing because they're fricking with it and touching their face while they wear it.

Seatbelts will even work fairly well for a straw man, as it turns out.

Why do medical professionals use masks at all, ever?

There are different levels of masks.

Something like this, a surgical mask is more helpful when you put it on the infected individual; they cough and the spray gets caught on the mask.

N95's are better for preventing stuff from coming through and getting to you.
BTW, the N95 has to fit right. Here's a helpful tip: while the official sizes are Small and Regular, it SHOULD be called Normal and Large. Most people should wear Small.

And fact of the matter is, people can spread this virus before they are symptomatic, so the more people who wear masks, the better.

I suspect the more virulent strains have already hit the general population, and put those at risk in the hospital. The hospitals are leveling off or rebounding, and what's out in the "wild" is now facing herd immunity and dead-ending.

Ok, now I get it. You're intimidated by Karens. I would suggest you either grow a set of balls and quit being afraid of Karens, or STFU and put your mask on. Living in fear has to suck!

quote:

I stood in line waiting to get at a grocery store yesterday. Everyone (about 5 or six people) had on masks, except for one guy. He was dressed like a "baw", walked like a "baw", and he wasn't going to put on a mask because that's his "baw" right! When he got to the front of the line to get a cart, the 18 year old girl that was wiping down the cart handles looked at him and asked, "You don't have a mask?" He looked around and all of us were looking at him, but none of us were his baw bretheren. He reaches in his pocket and drags out a neck gaiter and slipped it on. It was absolutely pathetic. Shamed by an 18 year old girl but probably brags online about being an alpha!
