While the science on purging has been settled for a decade, I wonder if there is any merit to the idea that adding a bit of salt during cleaning would act as an abrasive to get the crawfish more clean on the outside than plain water would.

Do you know what happens to salt when it sits in water?

I use the crawfish washer tub from Academy and adding salt was not part of the instructions

Holds a sack of crawfish and run the water through it 5-10 minutes til the water runs clear. Done.

Yeah, it's probably the greatest gift my in-laws ever gave me.

Yep, which is why I'm not talking about soaking. Let it snow with Morton and then shake the shite out of them.

And again, I'm not selling the method; I'm just curious

I usually give them a couple wash cycles just to knock any heavy dirt and mud off. Salt is pointless as already mentioned. Also you’re better off “boiling” them in plain water, and soaking them in warm seasoned water. When you’re done, look at the nasty arse stinky water left behind from the cooking pot.

That's why Hawk's Crawfish in Rayne is da best...48 purge in there holding tanks. The tanks are fed water straight from a water well drilled on there property! If you haven't had Hawk's then you need too!
