Can someone explain to me in moron terms why would a player like Smart declare for the draft. Seems as if he would know that he has no shot at being drafted.

He essentially gets to participate in the predraft process, gets a grade from scouts, told what he needs to work on, etc. Then gets to come back to school.

In a normal year he could have the chance to workout for teams and get direct feedback on what to improve. With COVID It’s not likely he will get that opportunity. The only explanation is that he made up his mind he is leaving after next year so mind as well test again this year.

You can declare one time and still come back to school as long as you don’t hire an agent. It allows these players to get feedback from NBA scouts/teams on what they need to work on as well as where they might be drafted.
