don't forget sonos is allowing IKEA to sell sonos-lite speakers for $100 but i'm sure the sound quality isnt exactly great.

And before I started this, I had basically zero knowledge about audio. I still have little knowledge about it, but at least it's a non-zero amount now.
I have also found many alternatives to the devices I chose for this. I went with the HiFiBerry because I had already heard of it, but I can bring my cost down significantly by using a standalone amp board with a DAC and a Pi zero, and have higher output as a bonus.
