You can take the Baw out of the oil field, but you can't take the oil field out of the baw.
And FWIW, I have no ill will towards the oil field guys. But I also don't feel bad for them right now. They picked their industry, and they have to live with it. In both the good times and the bad.
As for me, I'll take my steady office job because I value job security. I may not make as much as the oil field guys when the price of oil goes through the roof, but I also have nothing to worry about when oil prices bottom out.

If you live in Louisiana, Houston or some other area with heavy ties to the industry you might. Local or regional economic activity has an impact on just about all other industries.

Why can’t you be in O/G and work in an office? Depending on what you do, you can be pretty well insulated from the market volatility if you’re with corporate.
