Driver help

I'm just getting back into golf after a decade away. (I have bad arthritis, so all sorts of joint changes.) I have been using an old Callaway Big Birtha 3-wood to tee off with as of late. (No driver in the bag). I have been thinking of getting the Cobra F9, but without being able to test shafts it is a gamble. What do you guys recommend in this current situation?

WAIT until you can test shafts. The shaft makes all the difference. With your arthritis, it’s paramount that you get the right shaft. Just wait. We will be back to normal in a couple of weeks.

If you are going to invest any significant money into a new driver I would get fit for the proper shaft.
It will make a big difference in your confidence level going forward knowing you are set up for success. A bad swing is a bad swing but on the longer clubs the right shaft can help with the margin for error.

Thank you, both. I guess I was thinking I needed to jump while the price was $250. I appreciate the advice.

The shaft is going to be the biggest component of it all. That said, I picked up a used M5 in mint condition for $220 a few months ago and couldn't be happier with it. The TwistFace is really forgiving.

You could jump and get it re-shafted, if the price is right and the shaft prices are still in your comfort range. Not sure if that would be, though.

You can always get it and try it out then if you need some tweaking go get fit for a shaft after the fact for your head. It may end up costing a little more so is a gamble like you said but do some research on shafts for your swing speed and you may can get close with a stock option.
eta: Yeah what Fonzarelli said.

100% agree with this if the price is right.
The stock shafts are pretty good. Do a little research. I think Cobra will help you build one on their website.
ETA: I think that price will still be good in a couple of weeks when the golf shops reopen. Hell, I think Cobra is offering that price in their website.

I will probably have to wait. I have no idea what my swing speed is. My old 3 wood has been good to me the last few rounds. I usually hit it between 210 to 235, I am hoping to get a another 20 yards or so with a driver.

I know it’s old but what weight and flex is that shaft in your 3 wood?

The beauty of today's drivers is that you can swap shafts out. Get the F9 in a the proper flex that you're use to. Do a little research and get the mid launch, mid spin option and have fun. You'll be able to adjust the loft to help maximize your distance. Getting fit is a nice luxury but unfortunately, not an option for everyone. dont over think it

It’s really more about how you load the shaft. A golfer that swings it 90 mph could need an extra stiff shaft. Someone that swings 110 could need a regular flex. If I were you I’d buy the driver if you can get a good deal and then get fitted for a shaft later on.
If the fitter is going by just your swing speed find someone that knows what they’re doing.

I spoke with an Edwin Watts employee today. Everything is contingent on the Governor, but he is thinking on the first they will be open. That same employee helped me with selecting my used Ping G400s, and I really like them.
I'm just getting back into it, helping my 15 yo son get started. I am really enjoying walking Dumas as of late. It has actually made my arthritis feel better.
As far as the shaft on my 3-wood, it is not labeled. It just says Graphaloy proform. A friend of mine broke the shat about 12 years ago, and got it reshafted because he felt bad.
