As many have said it's still snowy and won't be cleared for a bit. My parents (live in West Yellowstone) said the snow is melting but will be some time before park opens even without the virus. I highly recommend going in the winter though and doing the snowmobile trips in the park. Get to see a whole different side of Yellowstone without the Asians. What somebody said above about Bison is somewhat true. If Bison are around you (we were within 5-10 feet a lot) park the snowmobiles as close together as you can. They will stand in between the snowmobiles and refuse to move. I wouldn't go after Christmas however. It's just too snowy if you aren't prepared.

Yellowstone is open year round. The only difference in the winter is only the north entrance and the north-east entrance are open to vehicles. The only road that is open is from Mammoth to Lamar Valley. This is one of the best times to visit the park if you have winter clothing. You will see more wildlife than any other time in the park, and the scenery is breathtaking. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for your first visit, because you will miss out on most of the park unless you pay ridiculous amounts of money for snowmobile tours.

Granted, that is for a normal year. It is definitely closed this year do to COVID, and will probably remain closed until mid-late May.
