What is the best refrigerator to buy these days?
I am going to buy a bottom freezer with the French doors.

What’s your budget? They sell refrigerators that cost double what my first car did

We have a Samsung and I would never buy it again. And I would not buy another refrigerator with the ice maker in the door. It's the first thing to break and a PIA. But we do have the bottom freezer with the french doors and love that style.

Maytag/Whirlpool
Save the cash, maintenance, and potential fail by going without ice/water maker

Probably whirlpool brands. (Whirlpool, kitchen aid, maytag)
Or Electrolux.
Avoid GE and for the love of all that's holy stay away from LG fridges. They have a 30%compressor failure rate within five years.
Samsung aren't that bad. A defrost issue in the fridge is often common also their in door ice makers are garbage.
But hard to avoid crappy icemaker with a French door fridge.
Or Electrolux.

We had a housecall from an all brands appliance repair shop to look at our Samsung microwave that shorted internally and caught fire. While he was writing it up I asked what brands he sees the most of and the least of for service calls across all home appliances. He stated flat out that Samsung and LG literally keep them in business with over half their repair calls. He said any of the Whirlpool/Kenmore/Maytag/Roper line were head and shoulders better built than anything else on the market.
Again, he doesn't sell any of them and works on all of them.
Take it for what it's worth from a repairman POV.

If no ice maker then what do you do for ice? Separate in counter ice maker?

Some Kenmore's are made by Samsung or LG. Found this out the hard way. Four year Kenmore Elite that was originally priced at 2800.00, sat on the floor for a year or so, bought it for 1600 and thought I made the appliance deal of the decade. Compressor bit the dust and repairman said junk it. With the money I saved I should of bought the warranty, but didn't. Fine fridge while it worked, now have a whirlpool.

We bought a Maytag two years ago. Opted for the full door up top instead of French doors and the ice maker is in the freezer below. LINK
I like being able to open the whole top at once. Makes loading groceries easier and you have more space in the door. The drawers are set up well.
