MIT initiates mass manufacture of disposable face shields for Covid-19

The shields are made of clear materials and have a shape similar to a welder's mask--single piece face shield design will be made using a process known as die cutting. Once boxes of these flat sheets arrive at hospitals, health care professionals can quickly fold them into three-dimensional face shields before adjusting for their faces. Their design also includes extra protection with flaps that fold under the neck and over the forehead.
die cutter machines used in mass manufacturing will produce the flat face shields at a rate of 50,000 shields per day in a few weeks. The manufacturer will continue to ramp up and increase the rate of manufacturing further with the ability to fabricate in more than 80 facilities nationwide.

Maybe someone will figure out how to make these things out of paper, like the straws?

You know who could churn those out incredibly fast? Box factories.
They have these machines called rotary die cutters. They can build the die and start making them in 1 day. A single machine could make possibly 50 thousand per day, if they have the sheets of plastic.

The sheets of plastic have been getting hard to find I gather.
I have a few 4x8 sheets of poly here but using for other things.

Most people can't fold a map.
These face shields are going to baffle a lot of people.
