I find it charming, I love that style of gameplay. Maybe because of some weird nostalgia?
RE1 and RE5 are the only RE games I've ever played. I remember the cousins and I being scared to play RE without the lights on, good times as kids.

It was definitely very enjoyable. Once I got used to everything, I was really able to make some good progress on it.
That said, I only played Chris's playthrough. The inventory limitations were quite tough after playing RE0 where you could just drop things on the floor and they stay there.
