I've been to the area 4 times since 2008. Like it so much I keep going back.
I've never been as far up as Jasper because I keep finding things to do around Banff/Lake Louise.
I typically stay in Banff but stayed away from downtown last trip (becoming too touristy).
Canmore can be done in a couple of days but it's a beautiful town.
Lake Louise has become overrun with tour buses, just a nightmare to navigate.
I tend to like day hikes, quietness, lakes, and not the hustle and bustle.
I would think this year will be less touristy because of the travel situation.
Good Luck, you can't go wrong. Scenery is amazing!
