Can you stop ignoring that these people are unhealthy? Ffs.

The CDC found 31 percent of all cases involved individuals age 65 or older. This age group also accounted for 45 percent of hospitalizations, 53 percent of intensive care unit admissions and 80 percent of deaths.

Once again, show me YOUNG AND HEALTHY like you keep saying in this thread
quote:
You are wrong about the healthy people needing significant medical intervention.
Nope.
Quite literally every study released is acknowledging this. They aren't needing critical intervention like ICUs but they are being admitted at significant rates

I believe the docs and analysts in this thread. Do you?
Sure.
And I also believe the systems administrators that I talk almost every day so are saying exactly what I am. My thoughts on this are not original, I can assure you.

And the rate at which 18-49 year olds are being hospitalized is not 20%. Because that’s not what the number suggests.
I mean I literally just linked the CDC study which puts it at 20% and here you are telling everyone its wrong.
Posted on 4/2/20 at 10:28 am to Antonio Moss
No. They put it at 14%.
See what I did there. a-hole.

Where does it breakdown healthy v. unhealthy?
"Healthy" is relative term. Even if 60-75% of these people have comorbidities that increase risk of death with COVID, almost none them were on their deathbed prior to infection or needing significant medical intervention.
Now they do.
And if 100% are your vague definition "unhealthy", it doesn't change the extra strain on the system.

This is why I just discount whatever you say.
There are multiple stressors, It's not an either/or problem.

What percentage of this demographic would be using hospital services without this pandemic?
There is your healthy %.

quote:You have to be pretty fricking stupid to use this data for any sweeping argument. I mean seriously dumb.
Researchers analyzed data on 4,226 COVID-19 cases reported to the CDC from Feb. 12 to March 16 by 49 states, three U.S. territories and Washington, D.C. The CDC had complete age data for 2,449 of these patients.
First, the testing during this period was limited to serious cases to begin with. The vast majority of cases weren’t tested at all and just told to stay home. The fricking death rate of these cases is in the 4-6% range man. That’s well over 10 times what it really is. And THIS is the data you want to use to “prove” that 20% of young people have to be hospitalized??? My God you are an idiot.
Why don’t you use the newest data? Or data we have from closed systems like the cruise ships and the town in Italy? Since both of those and all of the newer data with more and more testing is more accurate? Add those to what’s been reported in this thread, and you have nothing to stand on. Way to go. You played yourself.

Once again, ell know more about this than the CDC and major hospital administrators in the state.
None of the studies are good enough. None of the results on the ground are good enough. System overloads in Italy and Spain aren't good enough. System administrators calling for the restrictions don't know what they are talking about. The President and his administration don't have a clue - only ell.
I'm done with this conversation because ultimately, my position is the one being implemented by state leaders moving forward. Your ignorant opinion on this is irrevevant. No one is listening to you which makes this entire discussion a waste of time.
Non-essential businesses will remain closed until the end of April when hopefully Louisiana can open back up. Schools will be shut down through the end of the academic year. Hopefully, with these measures we stave off a system overload in NOLA, EBR, and Shreveport. The next ten days will determine that.

Red Bud
43yo, 6'1" at 230lbs. with no spleen since 1995.
Is this enough to be called an underlying condition?
Should I be worried or has my immune system had enough time to adapt??

I thought you already only had a month left to live?

Well don't want to die from that. Went to doc and said I'm in pretty good shape. Might make another 6-8 months. Which I'm sure makes you sad.

The whole point of my argument in that thread was that the unhealthy and old were the ones straining the system and that they should be the ones to quarantine while the rest of us go on about our lives.
You know, I see your point. If we just quarantined people over 50, smokers, the obese, people who have asthma / diabetes / autoimmune disorders / cancer / heart disease, and black folks then 5% of the population might be able to go back to work.
