No. Not really. But don't be scared. This isn't Chernobyl where the ICU is the only place that it resides. It's everywhere. It's in the community. If yall are middle ageed or younger and healthy, kids or no kids, you will be fine.
Drop off groceries to your parents (maybe her parents) and relax.

We are fricked right now tho. Basically we do not have experienced icu nurses to take all these patients. Having to train med surg nurses and its bad. NPs and CRNAs are gonna start taking patients.

So, I have the mother of all pre-conditions (T2 diabetic), with none of her sisters (not obese, no hypertension, no history of immune deficiency).
With 41% of the deaths in LA linked to diabetes, are they talking “uncontrolled” diabetics as is typical? Or are people like me equally fricked....

Don’t really have enough info on pregnant women... but here is current prevailing wisdom.
1. Pregnancy is an immunocompromised state, so technically would be more susceptible to infection. However, we haven’t seen that pregnant women do any worse with this compared to their non-pregnant counterparts (as opposed to influenza).
2. We have not seen that this virus caused any birth defects (as opposed to Zika).
3. We don’t have any compelling evidence that the virus is vertically transmitted in Utero, but transmission can certainly occur from mother to new born after delivery.
4. The primary concern for pregnant women should be prevention...staying at home, hand hygiene, not touching face. As of now, we are not recommending pregnant healthcare workers should stop working, but that is subject to change. We are recommending stopping work at 37 wks, to hopefully ensure 2wks of isolation prior to delivery.

High rate of atelectasis and high flow not working. I proned tons of pts in last week. Have not seen great results. Also proning people not vented has not seemed to work.

Any stories or ideas on exactly how people are catching this? I’m washing my hands raw and distancing and decontaminating every thing. But how easily is it transmitted?? Is it like I walk into a room and “Bammm” Covidality! Or is it actually touching?

Expel as much secretions as possible, even if you think cough is dry, its not. Lay on stomach, head down. Cough it out.
If u have to go to hospital, demand hydroxychl/azithro early, continue laying on stomach, allow intubation as last resort.
To be clear, once admitted, I lose contact. Maybe some RT's or intensivests can weigh in.

Are you finding it difficult to move pts from the er to an icu bed? Are vents hard to come by?

Yes moving from bed to bed is almost impossible to keep them from popping off the vent. Vents not hard to come by... yet

"As far as we now, does not cross placenta, so as long as mom does not get severely ill, baby should do fine. The neonates that contract it immediately after birth tend to ultimately do okay."

To be clear, if yall are having trouble breathing at home, by all means lay on your stomach. It can help your oxygenation. Just the people I take care of are sick as shite. Almost all are going into kidney failure requiring dialysis.
