And was wondering if the state still stocks ponds like this, with bass, crappie, and bream?

They use to do this years ago... Just wanted to see if they still do. If so any contacts or experience with them and how it worked...

Was thinking of trying to get the neighborhood lake stocked...

Any and all help appreciated...

I would get with homeowners association and try to get everyone to chip in and pay for it to be stocked.

By a private stocker or does the state charge?

Any names of any private stocker near Covington?

The state doesn't stock private ponds anymore but they have a list of people you can buy from. My neighborhood used Dunn's fish farm from that list to buy a few grass carp.

fingerling list

What makes you think it's not already stocked? Is it new, and spring-fed?

It’s about 8 years old......has a few lean bass very few and wanted to see about getting it up to snuff....

lots of kids fish but with no luck 95 out of 100 mini trips...the lake could use some help and if managed correctly. Could be like any great golf course pond with fun for the mini-me’s...

Lack of forage for the bass is why they are lean. I would say overpopulated but if you don't catch any 95/100 times then probably not overpopulated.

Stock heavily with fathead minnows and get a bluegill brood going, with a feeding program for the bluegill to get them bigger faster so they can start laying millions of eggs.

If there's any evidence of otters, hire a trapper.

Outside of doing a full study, not much else advice you can get from the internet.

It used to be that folks would just stock 'em ourselves....catch a bunch of fish in one lake / river and dump in another....not overly scientific and probably not environmentally sound but it works....when I was 8 I stocked any farm pond I could sneak into with fish from a local creek...fishing improved on almost all of those ponds in a couple of years....catfish and bream will live in a 5 gallon bucket long enough for a 8 year old to tote 'em 30 minutes and dump em in a pond.....bass are a little less hardy. Crappie and bream will take over if done at the wrong time of year and there are fry present....

I had 200 channel cats dumped into the neighborhood lake behind my house. Didn’t ask just did only cost $80 for 6-8” fish

The state will stock the pond, but they will put up a sign giving everyone permission to fish.
