A lot of people will make more money on unemployment than they take home working. How will employers get them back to work?

Even Lindsey Graham says it was stupid.

That bill--supported by a republican senate, a republican president and a democrat house---is horrible.

Damn... that is a reasonable question. I didn’t like the bill but it was needed in a macro level. They will be many factions of the bill that will be counter productive but too late now.

Well, for many recipients it will not provide incentive to return to work until used up

The way Lindsey described it the law now stands that those receiving unemployment will now get $600 a week above and beyond the state benefit. So in Louisiana the unemployed could be getting $847 per week.

The maximum in Washington is $790 a week, so people could now be getting $1,390 a week, haha. That's so high.

If it is implemented as stated...possibly. In short, time will tell.
That being said, it was a moronic design to have it included. As for passing it...I guess that depends on how this shakes out. It certainly looks on the surface like the Democrats slammed the Republicans.

No they won't. Not everyone will get 600 dollars added to their unemployment. It is designed to bring a unemployed person back up to what their income was at the time they got laid off. 600 bucks is the max that will be added to your benefits.

That is BS. The republicans were right there with them. Trump was jumping on both parties.

The pork is on top of this BS. McConnell put some relaxing of FDA rules in the bill for a sun screen manufacturer in Kentucky.

Massie was the only rational guy in Congress on this.

[quote]How much will I receive?

It depends on your state.

Benefits will be expanded in an attempt to replace the average worker’s paycheck, explained Andrew Stettner, a senior fellow at the Century Foundation, a public policy research group. The average worker earns about $1,000 a week, and unemployment benefits often replace roughly 40 to 45 percent of that. The expansion will pay an extra amount to fill the gap.

Under the plan, eligible workers will get an extra $600 per week on top of their state benefit. But some states are more generous than others. According to the Century Foundation, the maximum weekly benefit in Alabama is $275, but it’s $450 in California and $713 in New Jersey.

So let’s say a worker was making $1,100 per week in New York; she’d be eligible for the maximum state unemployment benefit of $504 per week. Under the new expansion, she gets an additional $600 of federal pandemic unemployment compensation, for a total of $1,104, essentially replacing her original paycheck.

Uh.... yes they are.

They are subject to Federal Income Tax, but not SS/Medicare tax. And may or may not be subject to State Income Tax, depending on the state.

It should be considered quitting your job if your job is open and you decide to not go back to work

This would be grounds for terminating your unemployment benefits

Yeah you definitely shouldn't be making more on unemployment but I don't have a problem with it being close to your old salary for a few months.

Uhh I can tell you that will not be the case if it is handled as the government handled it after Katrina.

A shitload of people signed up for Ui the past week just sure that even though they haven't worked in years, they were still going to get that federal add on.
