Yeah, offseason thread, sorry.

You had a lot of the key skill players still from the 03 team (Addai, Green, Vincent, Carey, Landry), a good underclass of guys that would later be the leaders on the 07 team (Hester, Doucet, Lafell Dorsey, Steltz, Williams, Scott, Flynn) and guys who never really contributed to either title team but were some of the best players at their position at the time (Russell, Bowe, Davis).

New coach and Katrina obviously fricked things up, but that was a fun team to watch.

No Katrina and that team likely wins the SEC and finishes #3 in the nation.

That 06 team was the one. The talent was crazy.

And get the Auburn 2004 season treatment...that would have been rough...

06 was a better team because JRock was in God mode and we were stacked at receiver.

But I still think the collection of overall talent in 2005 was better just because you still had a bunch of the 2003 guys on that team.

Nothing random about it considering one of if not the best recruiter in college football history had been our coach the 5 years prior to this season.

Can you imagine if Jamarcus Russell had just a piece of Joe Burrow’s work ethic?

Whit, Williams, Wroten, Addai, Nate Livings, Mel Oliver > God mode JRock + Lasik

Offensively not on par with USC and Texas in 2005, but had a much better Defense than either, and certainly better team than Penn St..I thought 2005 Tigs the third best team in the land.

2006 Tigs every bit as good as Fla..Refgate on Plains + Hardhead Les + Fumble and bad mojo in Swamp = missed opp to get second look at a Fla that played a weak second half in Atlanta vs Ark..would've rolled Ohio St just like Gators did if got there.

Saban would've won at least one of the 2005 & 2006 Natties..the talent was there.

We were better up front on both sides of the ball in 05, but we were better at the skill spots in 06. Both teams were good enough to compete for a national title. No way we should have lost to Tennessee in 05 or Auburn/Florida in 06.

What do you mean "randomly"?

LSU has had top 5 talent nearly every year since 2003

Yeah 2005 was a really good stacked team but it was never going to crack the top two even if it went undefeated.

2006 should have been a NC team. 11-2 was underachieving. Although I understand the Auburn game was stolen, the offense should have been more potent.

Saban probably wins 2006 but 2005 was fated to be USC-Texas

Maybe, but there would be a good chance we would have passed Texas and given a chance to settle 2003.
Texas had a bigger win in Ohio st, but we would have had more top 25 wins- can lsumatt run the bcs numbers?

2005 was before the SEC dominance really started. Texas had a Heisman contender QB and was crushing opponents. No way was LSU, with its unexciting style of play, ever going to pass Texas or USC.

If Saban were coaching 2006 LSU, that team wins the title. The talent was there. 2006 was the year. 2005 LSU probably comes in 3rd
