Below is the link to an abstract published that shows the pre-clinical rationale for using Hydroxychloroquine. It was done in China, in a Beijing Hospital, but it was also supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which does provide a bit of credibility.
Bottom line, their dosing recs for Hydroxychloriquine are loading dose of 400mg BID on Day 1 and then 200mg BID for 4 days.

Also, Hydroxychloroquine is less toxic than chloroquine. And yes these drugs carry side effects, but remember, for Malaria they are often used long term. This is a short course of 5 days being proposed. i do not know what the NY Doctor uses as he didn't say in his video.

Further, a French team with INSERM has an open label trial in press, but the PDF is below. Hydroxychloriquine startes to clear virus in some patients in as soon as 3 days. They show hydroxychloriquine and the antibiotic azithromax may be synergistic in decreasing viral load and duration.

Checks out, they both have some anti inflammatory effects as well as chloro’s immunosuppressive effects.

The way I heard it explained was the pneumonia is mostly a result of the nasty effects of the immune response in the lungs. I mean even if it doesn’t really kill the virus it’s still worth it as a supportive measure, and to calm your immune system down enough to attack the virus and not you.
