Pride can be a positive if it's aligned to embodying higher principles and living virtuously... becoming a better person and making the people around you better. Pride is not positive if it's mere conceit based on the perceived value of a label-- even if that label is "American".
America is based on principles. If you want to have pride in being American, become stronger.
