For you, an individual, yes. If you’re a healthy person from 20-80 that is not obese, doesnt have heart or lung problems, or doesnt have a compromised immune system, you will likely be fine. The problem is the large scale events that could cause widespread, quick transmission that can be brought to the vulnerable people while the hospitals can’t handle more capacity

So if I made you sit in a coronavirus patient's room for 24 hours with no PPE and told you just wash your hands, you would be totally cool with that?

If everyone were perfect stewards of this principle we wouldn’t have this virus spreading in our country to begin with.
It’s good to build this culture, and we are attempting to do so, but at this point, without other measures out of our control, advice is not going to be enough, unfortunately.

I would be fine. Happy about getting two weeks off work honestly

Nah man. Its not serious. Have a higher chance of dying in a car wreck. Continue your bitching but its a virus that has slightly more severe flu like symptoms. Mass hysteria will cause people to go to the ER and overwhelm tbe healthcare system when you should be staying home, drinking fluids, and taking dayquil

Again, if 20,000 people die from the flu, and we have vaccines we encourage people to use, and you introduce another Flu, Flu 2.0, that has no vaccine, With the potential to kill an ADDITIONAL 20,000 people, and you know of all these ways to prevent it from killing all 20,000 people( like social distancing, self-quarantine, taking sick days, canceling major transmission oppurtunities) what do you suggest we do?
Your logic seems to be a mix of blame the media and do nothing.

Just need some perspective on the people you are dealing with. If Trump comes out tomorrow and declares the sky is green they will argue with you to their grave about how green it is.

My logic is to not create fear and hysteria so people don’t crash the healthcare system. It is a virus. All wash your hands, drink fluids, stay home if you get sick same as if you have the flu... No reason to cancel the nba season

They hit pause. In all likelihood to test the players dumb frick Gobert came into contact with

I get what you’re saying. The fact is, no one has any clue about the details of the virus. Even doctors are giving mixed opinions. The main problems with “just washing your hands and drinking fluids are”:
-there is a ~4 day period after initial infection where you are contagious, but asymptomatic, so you have no clue that you’re transmitting the disease at all during that time
-it is airborne, and the fibrosis in the lungs and throat causes it to be transferred through the air by simply exhaling
In the NBA’s case, if one person has it, next a whole team has it, next the whole league has it. They would most likely be fine considering their prior health history, but that opens the opportunity to transfer to the vulnerable, then boom, more people NEED hospitals. I understand you think everyone is a snowflake SJW that will go to the ED with cold symptoms, but that’s just a straw man and not near the main problem with the health system over-populating

Man ,you aren't very sharp are you?
Do u have any idea how fast it would spread threw the NBA with the sweat, water bottles, banging down low. They had no choice

Viruses transmit in different ways. We do not know for certain all the details on this one.
If I rub sanitizer all over my body and you have a virus that is so far asymptomatic and Suddenly happen to sneeze or cough in my vicinity, and I breathe it in, guess what? I’m potentially fricked. And if I brought my 87 year old father, he might be fricked even worse.
Hence why social distancing and minimizing transmission opportunities has to be a component of disease spread prevention once a highly transmissible contagion is confirmed to be spreading within a community.
I don’t know if it is the news you watch or the people you follow, but given the situation it is entirely reasonable to suspend the season and eliminate the potential for highly transmissible situations like a major sporting event.

You and I happen to sit next to each other at the Pels game. You have a mild cough and some body aches but you took ibuprofen at home and feel fine and didn't want to miss out in the game. I go home and interact with my father who has severe asthma and is currently on a steroid regimen. 1 week later, my dad is intubated in the ICU with severe respiratory failure due to COVID-19. He dies 2 days later. This all likely would have been avoided if the event had been cancelled instead until this global pandemic was under better control. You think it was worth killing my dad so you could go watch the Pels in person? Maybe you killed the person in front of you's grandmother who they visited in the nursing home later that day too. Who knows how many deaths you've led to!

Pels game is canceled. I don’t feel like going home. I go to a bar, or a restaurant where I interact with more people that could be in the same hypothetical situation as you.
Or maybe I might have the regular old flu. Guess what the old man is still going to be in trouble.
We are setting a precedent. Next season should be canceled as well. Wouldn’t want thousands spreading the flu around

Look at China. They shut shite down to stop the spread. You think that was media induced mass hysteria? They rule the country and media with an iron fist. If this was really nothing the story wouldn’t have originated in China.
