You’re stuck on this concept for some reason. You do know this isnt the flu or any type of influenza, right? It’s a completely different virus that works in a completely different way. It’s much harder to contract than the flu. Nobody has antibodies made to resist this, so it will inevitable be harder to fight off than the flu. Old people will die more because of this than the flu
Coronavirus is not the flu. The symptoms are kind of similar. Kind of. That’s the only similarity.

Sounds like you're a pretty irresponsible person in the midst of a global pandemic. Glad we cancelled several mass gatherings to prevent more people like you leading to innocent deaths.
This virus could and likely would kill more than the flu if nothing was done to contain the spread. The flu virus also has a vaccine and an FDA approved treatment. Once we have more data on the virus and have a vaccine and treatment we can start to get back to normal.
Why do you want to downplay this so much? What's your motivation? Do you not trust global health experts?

I work in healthcare. Far bigger problems. Its already stabilized in china. Funny none of my colleagues are freaking out about this. Just the general public

Weird. I work in healthcare as well and our hospitals are putting major restrictions on visitors throughout the entire hospital, number of healthcare workers allowed to interact with suspected or confirmed patients, not to mention the recommendation to use an N95 mask, face shield, and gown and gloves for every patient interaction with suspicion for COVID-19. We've also had to quarantine some residents for 2 weeks who interacted with a patient without using the proper PPE before the infection was confirmed. I certainly hope wherever you work catches up with the CDC recommendations and takes this seriously.

I assume you’re saying this on just that the flu has had more cases this year? Which would be a irrelevant. All preliminary studies have shown that the basic reproduction number of COVID-19 are averaged between 2-3, meaning that each one infected person will likely infect between 2 and 3 people. The flu, however, has a basic reproduction number of 1.3. Pretty significantly lower in relative terms. Corona spreads in every way the flu does in addition to airborne breathing, which the flu does not. And also, this is a new strand that no one has previous immunities or antibodies for, so there is literally no wall of defense for anyone

Actually I said this because the flu spreads faster, which is how I interpreted the “spread more easily” part. Turns out the flu typically spreads faster, but coronavirus is likely to spread to more people. So, whoops I’m wrong

Well you and your colleagues have nothing to do with patient care then. There have been two confirmed viruses in Shreveport/Bossier and there are already huge steps being taken to prevent spread and you have nurses not showing up for work because the hospital didnt take preventative measures earlier.
