Breaking into the Medical Sales sector?

I'm a 26 year old RN, BSN. I have 3 years experience in ICU and developed relationships with numerous nurses, and surgeons in all specialties. Every damn site I go to such as medreps, theladders, etc is to recruiters and recruiting firms.
Almost all these companies want sales experience. I understand that its a sales job but I mean high concept selling techniques require more knowledge than selling skill. If your product is safe, advanced, and can help the physician; what good will sales experience give you. I have direct experience with hospital administration from my days as a manager of a staffing agency; start up business. So can that be consider b2b?
What can I do to just get the opportunity for an interview? I'm not underqualified. Bachelors 3+years in Surgical ICU, OR, cathlab, Telemetry setting....what do these guys look for? I just want an opportunity to impress a surgical sales company or pharm company. I think I can handle the interview part. I've read knock em dead. Have a solid cover letter in resume.
Anybody with hiring and recruiting experience got some answers?
Thanks Money Talk, in advance.

i'm curious, but why would you want to go from nursing into medical sales?
medical & pharm sales has an incredibly high turnoevr rate for a reason (i've heard as high as 42%)...just curious why someone would leave a steady and lucrative field for one of turnover and uncertainty?
if you don't want to discuss it, sorry for intruding

They want people who don't mind getting treated like shite by docs. You also have to be at their beconed call. My wife was in the same boat. RN and BSN and was thinking about going into med sales. She talked with a few med sales reps and most started out as drug reps. Anyway she decided to go back to school and now is a nurse practitioner and is probably going to be happier in the long run.

I'm a veterinarian who went into Veterinary sales. From their viewpoint product knowledge is great but they're into sales ability. I faced these same obstacles. I had friends in the industry I had done business with and I got in. What they're looking for is your ability to get face time with the prospect qualified buyer, ability to meet his objections, and sell, get him to script,in general move their product. I did it for a year and I was successful but I got tired of the small town motels and being away from home. You also have to deal with some ja's that like to jerk you around. Also there is the pressure of the monthly number which is constant. All that said my old co. is offering me a territory right now but I think I'm gonna pass. Good luck.

i've got some friends in the industry (baxter/b braun etc) and they both say the same thing...medical background will help, but a strong sales background, the right connection or the wow factor (if you can getan interview) is essential

In software sales, those sales guys don't know shite about the product and don't care to learn.

Grass is greener.......thats all
Feeling lazy........goal has always been CRNA; still is.......but surgical sales seems awesome with all the new wire technology and less invasive surgical techniques these days.......stents, vascular lasers.........cool shite.......
Got a buddy who takes docs deep sea fishing and to dinners and has a pretty posh life.
I gotta go to school for 28-32 months depending on if I get into BR or NOLA....
Don't know what else to say other than exploring outs at the moment

Seems like all BSN RNs want to go to CRNA school now.

for every one of those, there are ten who struggle to meet their monthly quotas and when they do, they are upped the next quarter
not for all, but for alot, it is a very stressful environment

it really is a ssweet gig if you can hack what it takes to get through school...and i don't just mean the classes

My wife was considering CRNA, but decided she actually liked talking to patients and dealing with their problems. It's going to be interesting when the anesthesiologists start hired those anesthesia assistants.

first, it has to get passed in La, THEN it would be up to the anesthesiologists and from what we hear, many of them will avoid the assistants like the plague
they know their margin for error is higher and the possibility of patient loss is greater due to patients wanting "best possible care"

mine decided she liked making $150k a year and working 7-3 monday through friday with 6 weeks paid vacation..no nights, no weekends

You've got it pretty good then. A few our friends are CRNAs and they work for Parish anesthesia and to make 150k they are on call a good bit. They tell me that they are on call the night before they get to finish around 3-4 then next day.

Don't fool youself, it will get passed. The thing CRNAs need to do is make sure that the assistants don't get too much responsibility.

any group you go with that has trauma centers is giong to be much different
my wife chose a small group with 3 hospitals and no trauma centers
guaranteed 8 hours/day pay (worked 6 1.2 yesterday) and 10 hours OT a month when you have a "late day" once a week

my wife has call once every 8 weeks and doesn't have to eb at the hospital (like others do)....she only gets called for an emergency surgery and if the anesthesiologist cannot handle it themself

They actually moonlight at the the little surgery center. They've always said that the money is good, but you def. have to work for it.
