Saw Sturgill Simpson and Tyler Childers last night

Tyler's set was incredible. The sound setup wasn't the best, but his voice was strong and the crowd was really into it.
Strugill's was different. He was playing all of his newer stuff to start the set. Musically, he is crazy gifted...but it seemed like he was losing the audience, and by the time the show ended, probably 1/5 of the people had walked out. I love the guy, but I'm not a huge fan of what he's putting out there right now.
I overheard someone saying, "it felt like Childers was playing to the crowd, and Simpson was playing at them". That was pretty spot-on.

Three of us have to choose between this combo and Jerry Jeff Walker on an upcoming trip. I think I am going to vote for just Tyler.

Have tickets to see them both in May in Nashville. The more I read about the tour it seems like I might end up leaving after Tyler's set. About how long did Tyler play? I missed him solo at the Ryman so I'm hoping this is kind of a co-headliner thing and he plays for longer than a traditional opener.

I just looked at setlist.fm and he's playing anywhere from 15-18 songs. So it's probably somewhere between 60 and 90 minutes.

The name of the tour is "Sound and Fury." Most artists feature their new stuff to promote an album.
Now, I'm hearing he's playing the whole album front to back...and that's not typical for most artists. What was weird about the 2017 tour is that Sturgill did something similar, but played each of his albums with songs in a random order starting with Sailor's Guide and moving backwards.

I think it's actually "A Good Look'n Tour" - but your point stands. I expect him to play a lot off Sound And Fury. Wouldn't mind hearing a few from Metamodern Sounds but I won't hold my breath

Ah crap you are right!
I just remember the ad showing the cover of Sound and Fury.
From the setlists website it looks like last night show may have been cut short for some reason, unless the setlist is wrong.
It seems like most of his other shows he plays about 6 more songs including some Metamodern. I'm with you in that it'd be nice to hear more from that album.

First...the show started at 7:30, and Tyler started the second the clock ticked over. Do not be late because he starts exactly on time. It's hard to say how long he played...probably close to an hour, but he rolled directly from one song to another, so the amount of music he poured into that set was pretty hefty. He put on an awesome show.

I am a big fan of both guys.
I am pretty disappointed in Sturgill’s new album. Not a fan.
I got to see Tyler last May and the show was great. Needs to fire his sound guy though. I was tempted to buy tickets for this tour but decided not to after hearing Sturgill’s new album. It just doesn’t do it for me.

I wouldn't mind that setlist at all tbh.
These are some of my favorites of his. Would be crazy to hear them all in order
Make Art Not Friends is my absolute favorite from Sound and Fury

Well that’s basically the only way those songs sounds good. They flow good together, but kind of suck individually.

It took me a while to warm up to it, but now I love it. There is clearly a lot of emotion in that album, and the guitar is excellent throughout.
That being said, I can understand how that album might not sound great live.

Prepare your anus. Sturgill could fart into a megaphone and this board would say it was genius

Seeing this show in a few weeks
Much more of a Childers guy than a sturgill one but going with a couple friends that are complete opposite
