The cautions at the end of the stages are put in only to improve the fan experience. Forcing the cars together for a restart automatically creates the action to ensure increased fun in the racing. The forced cautions at the stage breaks creates commercial breaks when racing isn't happening, as they are able to show you the pit stop. It does change the "purity" of racing but its only to make a more "fan friendly" product. I like the stage breaks, personally

The increased risk of cautions come because of the increased competition in the racing, the door to door racing that the fans want to see. NASCAR is wanting to increase the excitement and it's working in my opinion. The fanned out caution free racing is the slower paced action that NASCAR is doing their best to eliminate

I would disagree. They are pushing hard to get fans access to gambling, they are quick to make changes to the product when they get things wrong in their estimation (think about the group qualifying and about the change to the spoilers this year at the 1 mile and under tracks), the stage racing creates more checkered flags and intensifies the racing throughout the course of the race, they have an insane amount of fan engagement at the track between the drivers and fans (there is a pre-race video from last year with Kurt Busch that shows how much pre-race B.S. he has to do with the fans that is unparalleled in sports, i mean nothing comes remotely close to this type of fan experience). Thats just a few off the top of my head of improved fan experience. What are some of the negatives that you can think of?

Let's put it this way: when cars are strung out, you have one- or Two-car wrecks. When cars are bunched together, you have multi-car wrecks, aka "the big one". I don't tune in to watch guys clean parts off the track.

The artificial close racing that is manufactured by NASCAR cheapens the competition. Manufactured close racing is not exciting.

yeah, "the big one" sucks. thats not good for racing or fans, i totally agree. I could be wrong but I think the "big one" still is exclusive to talladega and daytona, and hasnt happened at the 2 milers or 1.5ers even with the increased frequency of restarts.

i think the fans decided that wasnt good enough. its why there has been a decrease in viewership and race attendance. the manufactured racing has been boosting the tv ratings. I understand that it cheapens the racing, but I don't really mind it. Both football and basketball promote offense because it is what is exciting, this is no different IMO. The best drivers/teams continue to rise to the top, so it's not like it is creating undeserved winners. Just closer races with increased competition throughout.

Yeah, the peak ended. It is what it is
I take your point in general, it just all seems like too much to me though. NASCAR has always had some of this with restrictor plates and well timed “debris” cautions.
If they want more action, I think they should run more short tracks, and rovals. Don’t have to worry about competition cautions for either of those.

the short tracks were a major dud last year, thats why they made a drastic spoiler change this year for all tracks 1 mile and under.
on the road races last year: sonoma was a major dud, watkins glen was exciting but no one passed (if you remember chase just defended truex for what seemed like 20 laps), and the playoff roval race was incredible. But I wouldn't say that road races are a certain fix.
