Last night vs Florida was a microcosm of what has happened in several games where the opponent has shot an abysmal three point percentage for the first half and sometimes for 30 to 35 minutes. Then they suddenly cannot miss from long range and hit 6 for 7 or some such run at some point in the game.

Kentucky had one three pointer at half then made six in the first ten minutes of the second half. Auburn had a similar run at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime. Florida was 2 for 11 at half last night and then went 7 for 10 in the second half. This may be the result of not having much depth with the injuries as much as it is a systemic problem.

The 3s Florida shot in the 1st half were just as wide open as they were in the 2nd half. If you know what positions to be in on defense you won’t burn up all your energy constantly chasing the ball.

This year LSU is (on average) allowing exactly ONE more three pointer per game (~9) than they allowed in each of Wade's first two seasons (~8). Knowing that, what's more likely? An aberration due to bad luck with respect to injuries OR a systemic problem?

The reality is that NONE of Wade's LSU teams have been good at defending the three (with this year's version being the worst). However, that fact got looked over because there were (understandably) very low expectations in year 1 and in year 2 LSU was able to more often than not end up on the winning side of numerous close games. In year 3 the expectation level has risen (which is a credit to Wade), BUT LSU hasn't been as fortunate in the close game as they were last season. Thus, light is now being shed on a deficiency that was always present, but overlooked because the end result was going in LSU's favor more often than not.

LSU's defensive woes under Wade have always been there. We, as fans just simply chose to ignore them because the overall results far exceeded the expectation level. That's not to say Wade has done a bad job overall. Clearly he hasn't. But it does show there is a systemic deficiency that needs to be addressed
