There’s no short cut. Keto is not sustainable and you gain most of your weight back as soon as you get back on carbs.

I've been doing "lazy" keto for 3 years now, off an on. By lazy, I mean I don't count my carbs and just avoid sugar and starches as much as possible. It's allowed me to get off high cholesterol meds as my numbers dropped back into the normal zone. I also lost 30 pounds and have kept them off for the most part.

That said, it's definitely not a diet for everyone and can cause long term health problems for some people.

Similar story here, started around 255, got as low as 185 and got lazy with it and stopped two years ago. Obviously gained some back, but you learn how to cook and regulate your eating as well on keto, and through that I've maintained around 195 since. Now I'm not going to pretend like that's anything close to what I should be at, but it's definitely better off than the 60 extra pounds I was carrying for years.

That's because most people can't/won't do it properly. Any time I've done it I'd go with as many raw vegetables as possible and hamburger steak or something from the grill.

The dipping pork skins in cheese dip is a little too far for me though.

Some people do it legit like my youngest daughter. I don't think she has eaten any bread or pasta in over 5 - 7 years. But she is a fitness nut.

Oh

eating butter by itself is just nasty

this is me. I'm not religious about it, but basically stay away from breads and pastas.

I was already pretty thin and I started eating oatmeal for breakfast and lunch M-F (with peanut butter) and a sensible home cooked dinner with broccoli and cauliflower for sides, and walking 3-4 miles a couple of times a week and I lost 20 lbs.

So, eat normally, move a little, don’t drink alcohol, and the weight will come off. I now eat ice cream every night because I need to gain about 10 of it back.
