Trust me they would hate to play teams like LSU,Bama,Auburn on a yearly basis. As long as they keep putting them in playoffs they have no reason to leave that conference or schedule tougher out of conference games. Are they good enough to compete in one or two really competitive games a year ....sure, but give that Clemson team LSU schedule from last year and I'll bet they lose at least 3

It's more their conferences fault for being so shitty.
The ACC was very down last year - but that's not Clemson's fault. Historically, FSU and Va Tech have been top 10 teams, and NC State, Louisville, Virginia, Syracuse, Ga Tech, etc have been respectable. And then throw in ND, which isn't elite but is a respectable team as well.
No need to fault Clemson for the ACC being way down. It's all cyclical - it'll revert to the mean at some point.
