I remember vividly the big snows, ice storms, cold snaps, etc of my youth. I have no memory of the warmer days that my parents assured me happened with regularity.

Agreed and as I noted people see what they want to see, especially when they have this thought tendency cultivated and watered by media fear mongering and politics.
