Please walk me through this like the idiot I am, what else do I need parts-wise besides slide and barrel to complete this handgun? Also, I’m guessing this is like an 80% AR lower where there will be some milling to be done?

Slide parts, frame parts and trigger.

I’m pricing it out with the available parts also on Midway. It does not appear to be cheaper than buying a Glock at retail. I’m guessing you take on a project like this for the same reasons an individual would take on building their own AR. Certainly there’s some appeal for folks who want an “untraceable” handgun. You could look for a used factory glock barrel from someone that replaced it.

9 out of 10x these will never be cheaper than a factory glock. People build these to be untraceable, the fun of building a gun, “tricking” it out with aftermarket parts, and some say the ergonomics are “better” than a glock.
About as cheap as they will come

I have seen used Glocks from online dealers as cheap as $259. Sure they are .40's, but a new barrel and magazine and you can have a 9mm. Maybe sell the .40 barrel and magazines to someone trying to build a home brew.
