which honestly isn't very good for the sport

This is why I hesitate to open up paying players openly for any reason, it's going to be the same schools willing to get the top players "paid" whatever it takes and the lesser schools not willing to match which could excerbate this.

I get the players feeling slighted not getting a piece of the pie as athletic departments and coaches get rich, but man, could make the sport so unbalanced to the point we basically have to create new divisions because the mid-majors and smaller P5's have no way to compete really with that and suffer even further as a result.

It’s kind of becoming what English Premiere League is in that regard (And several other top soccer leagues as well).

There are 20 ish teams in that league but really only like 4 teams that can put together the talent to compete, the other 16 are essentially hopeless. If you don’t have that sheik/big oil money or some other very wealthy owner who’s very committed ($) to winning, you don’t have a chance.

I think that’s also why they developed the champions league, which is analogous to our playoff which will inevitably expand. It’s the same teams at the top each year, no secret why.

Not an apples to apples comparison, but you get the idea.

So instead of all out paying players they could let player make money on their likeness through the schools marketing department sold at licensed dealers etc... I hated seeing Jefferson and others wait till basically declaring to make money off their likeness tshirts etc.
