New Era Recruiting: 20+3+2

For a 25 recruit allotment, is this the new reality?
I am referring to the Dec + Feb+ Portal transfers to yearly recruiting.
Or, do most believe that all 25 should be HS signees?
It seems that the new portal/transfer reality can use 2 spots annually.
Just wondering what the eventual strategy will be.

I can't understand a thing you posted.

Not filling the full 25 was never the plan. Orgeron himself expected 22 or 23 in the 1st signing period by his own words.

Just remember for every Joe Burrow there are Jonathan Giles, and Terrence Alexanders
And there are guys like Fehoko who are good solid contributors but only for 2 years.
I’d prefer to take the best 25 guys possible than plan on portal transfers

Transfer Portal should be used to fill immediate needs.

You always try to get 25 HS recruits.
If you need experience at a particular position, you can always get that going the JUCO route.
I don't think anyone goes in thinking transfer portal during any recruiting cycle.

The best recruits are only here for 3 years with probably only 2 of solid production so I don’t see the problem there.
I say you try and get 25 top players but if you come up short there is no need to just fill the spots with lesser talent when you can go transfer route.

I think if the staff had to do it all over again, they would of kept some players like cooper and the two defensive lineman

I’d always keep at least 1 spot open for a lottery recruit (Burrow)
Unless you have 25 studs. Using it on a filler just doesn’t make sense.
If none transpire, use it on an EE the next year.
That’s just my opinion but I like to gamble.

Burrow was not a lottery recruit.
At the time he was just another kid who got beat at his position at his old school.

Burrow was a lottery pick, not in a draft lottery sense, but in a lottery ticket sense, i.e. a ticket that won.

Hindsight.
Turned out to be a lottery recruit.

Oh, we’re talking THAT definition of lottery. Fair enough.

Yeah but that’s not really what we got from Fehoko.
We got 4 year contributor solid player makes 0 sense to leave early play.
ETA: And he filled a big time need. My point is we should be going after guys to fill holes because recruits fell through not planning on filling holes with transfers.

I understand the question and ideally, sure, you’d prefer to have all 25 signed hs seniors and develops them for 3,4 or 5years.
We have had 2 or 3 busts. You’d rather have Hs seniors earn their way to the staring spot in 2 or 3 years than have to rely on a guy from Iowa that could not supplant the two I. Front of him.
However, it doesn’t work that way on the hs end and the portal end and that is why you need a head coach and persnell staff tk navigste this.

Think of it this way:
We want Maason Smith pretty bad next year. He’s a local Terrebonne player that you don’t want to get away.
But we have plenty of depth.
You don’t want him going to Florida/Bama/auburn. Keep him there and let the natural flow of development happen.
You take all hs athletes you can.

I think the transfer portal is the new reality and we should figure out how to work it into our recruiting strategy as fast as possible...rather than wait for some other school to do it first and suddenly find ourselves outdated.
If kids want to demand to be allowed to play as a freshman or leave, then the best way to handle that is to just keep grabbing more mature transfer players who’ve gotten that out of their system and are ready to work.
This is already a reality with QBs. Let somebody else do all the work of developing them so we don't have to. It's too hard to do anyway.

My inquiry/commentary was posed as relating to the "future" reality which may evolve. What HAS happened is only part of such an evolution, as the entire CFB world is adaptively learning and adjusting. I am merely saying that in 5 years, this approach may be what the CFB world iterates to. That's it, folks.

You're always going to have holes to fill. Alabama has taken multiple grad transfers over the years, as have we.
Injuries, misses, busts, transfers, etc. I don't think you want to rely on them, but I don't think taking 1 or 2 a year is a big deal.
It has to be an immediate contributor though.

I would Rather try and recruit to the point we don’t have huge holes that we need grad transfers year in year out.
Again we NEEDED CBS last year and got screwed by Terrence Alexander. Not only because he really couldn’t play all that well but because he fricked us by not going to class and finishing his degree.
