Anyone can help with this. Trying to take the family on a trip in May, and see several that look nice but never been.
Thx!

I went to the Iberostar down there a couple of years ago and it was amazing. That being said, there has been some cartel violence in the area since then and I would check the latest status on that before going.
Not being an alarmist about the cartels or the stuff that happens out in the country, I stayed on the resort the whole time, but I read about some violence and kidnappings on the highways. You would definitely be exposed to that on your ride in and out.

Exposed to that? How so? If we take a private transfer it shouldn't be a problem I would think.

Cancun airport down to Playa Del Carmen was a pretty decent drive south. There are reports of cartel roadblocks, drive by shootings and kidnappings along the highway. Hence my apprehension in driving on the highways. But that was a couple of years ago. I am just saying I would check the Dept or State warnings and news sources before I scheduled a trip.

I was gung ho about an all inclusive to Playa del Carmen myself but now this thread/ your posts have me second guessing

Let me be VERY CLEAR on this. Situations change. My info was from last year. I am NOT one of those people who thinks leaving the country is a bad thing. Just check the latest info.

Iberostar. We've been doing Iberostar resorts for the last 5 years. Wife and I love it

I’ve stayed at the royal hasciendas. Very nice property. Food was great, service good but not many restaurant options compared to other all inclusives I’ve visited

We usually stay in Playacar (gated community south of PDC) and really love it there. We’ve stayed at Sandos and Riu and they were both fantastic properties. Playacar is a very safe area and just a short bike ride or cab ride to Playa.
