Searched and hadn't seen much of an in depth discussion.

I have been currently cutting my yard with just a fiskars reel mower that i bought for $30 off craigslist a few years ago. My lot is just shy of 1/2 acre so I'm over pushing that thing around in the middle of the summer and seeing my neighbors start and finish cutting their grass before me. I have Zoysia in the front and St. Augustine in the back.

I have been looking at California Trimmer and TruCut but recently stumble upon Swardman (thanks to another thread).

Concerns:
Price
Getting the blades high enough for the St Augsutine

Would love to hear the success and horror stories if you have them

Reel mowers are really only good for grasses such as bermuda. You will have a tough time on St Augustine with that. Just get yourself a good gas powered mower and keep the blades sharp and cut high.

I use a Mascot manual reel to cut my back yard around my pool. Its a relatively small area so its not a big deal. I have centipede and cut it at 1.5" with the reel mower and it looks great. Problem is that I usually have to make two perpendicular passes to make sure I don't miss any blades. I've considered getting a power reel to do the rest of the yard, but the thought of making two passes every cut is keeping me away.

I cut the rest of the yard at 2.5" with a self propelled rotary mower.
