Here is what my Bro In Law, who is a coach, texted me:

“LSU has hired @SamfordFootball offensive coordinator @russcallaway as a senior offensive analyst. Building back up the analyst staff. That’s a hell of a hire. Heard him speak and talked with him at Glazier last year. Dude is smart and about my age.”

Just FYI.

Looks like a real good hire if so. He had the top passing FCS offense in 2018 and his QB won the Walter Peyton award that year.

Part of his profile on Samford's website -

quote:

Russ Callaway enters his fifth season on the Samford football coaching staff, and his fourth as the squad’s offensive coordinator. Callaway specifically coaches the team’s quarterbacks.

He coached the team's receivers for his first two seasons on the staff. For the last two seasons, Callaway mentored record-setting quarterback Devlin Hodges. In 2018, Hodges earned the Walter Payton Award for the top offensive player in all of FCS football.

That season, Hodges set a school record with 4,283 yards. For his career, the three-time SoCon Offensive Player of the Year and All-American, passed for an FCS-record 14,584, breaking the old record set by Steve McNair.

As a unit in 2018, Samford's offense led the nation in passing yards per game (392.7). The offense ranked fourth nationally in total offense (515.9 ypg.), and eighth in both red zone offense (.898) and in first downs (298).

I played against him in high school. He knows football. Another good friend of mine who coaches in the NFL was an analyst with him. He speaks very highly of Russ. His dad has been an OC and head coach at the D1 level for years. Glad to have Russ on our staff!
