Child Tax Credit maybe? I think that is a refundable tax credit.

I’ve made a point of this for years. We need to stop referring to it as a tax “refund.” The people who go all out and buy dumb shite at tax season are very more than likely getting back MORE of a “refund” than they paid in each year.

Many get loans against this manna from heaven prior to the receipt of actual money from the government. These aren’t cases where someone paid in 3500 and got back 3500 (although those can happen). Which would be a “refund.” These are cases where someone paid in a nominal amount, or zero, and gets thousands “back” from the government.

So yeah. That’s my yearly rant that we shouldn’t call them “refunds” for everyone. More like free money for claiming all the kids in the neighborhood.
