After the Ohio state championship game I remember one of their offensive players saying that Pelini was a beast for the way our guys played

Now days DC's use four three defenses and three four defenses fairly similar in a 4 3 you drop off a defensive end in coverage it becomes a 3 4 In a 3 4 if you rush an outside linebacker it becomes a 4 3 comme ci comme ça

while that may be true... 4-3 is not just about the Dlinemen.... 4- THREE.. meaning also 3 Linebackers. and 4 DBs... if you are playing against the spread and have 7 players in the box... you are going to get dominated...

Yet our fans keep saying how ready they are to have the 4-3 back!!! I promise you... no you aren't. maybe you are happy to have 4 downline men back... but that doesnt make it a 4-3. Hell our 3-4 had 4 downline men... one was just considered a "linebacker"... the lack of football IQ on this board is pretty apparent though. But if we ran a 4-3 next year vs Texas or Bama we would get DOMINATED. End of story
Dude you do realize 4-3 and 3-4 are just BASE defenses right? You have to be pretty stupid to think that we would trot out a 4-3 Defense when the offense is in 4 or 5 wide.

Never allowed big plays. Go watch that AL game again or how about the Ole Miss game.
If Aranda was so great, why did the WI D get better when he left?

I wasn't tired of any part of the 2019 LSU Tigers defense.

Wisconsin is still running Arandas defense they’ve just had much more time with it now that they’re basically a decade in running it.

I agree totally. Teams no longer feared our defense because we weren't aggressive. I'm ready to go back to our aggressive defenses we had before Aranda!

What I like about this is for LSU to lose next season both the O and D will have to play poorly and the chances of that are pretty low. There were definitely times this season where LSU would have lost if the offense was flat. Luckily, the O this year was always on. The D may actually be able to win some games next season instead of just being an accessory.

Aranda was a top 5 coordinator... who almost never allowed big plays

Aranda is a great coordinator. But every year that he was DC was literally worse than the previous by total defense. The only year he finished in the top 5 was his first. With 4-3 personnel.

It's possible to respect and be thankful for our coordinators without deifying every single one of them that has some success.

What did I say?
Are we not shifting back primarily to a 4-3?

Go ask Auburn if their "4-3" is outdated, they did the best job against LSU this past year. Nowadays 3-4 or 4-3 is just terminology, the alignments or personnel can make a 3-4 look more like a 4-2-5. Hell that 4-3 of Auburn's was turned into a 3-1-7 for LSU, so people don't need to be stuck on 4-3 or 3-4.

I understand what you are saying. Most do. I guess some people don’t. My excitement for more 4-3 is for recruiting. I long for the days when we were 9 or 10 deep. None of it may matter anymore because you end up facing so much spread. Football isn’t that complicated to understand. Do you understand why LSU fans that understand football would be excited about shifting more to a 4-3?

Auburn doesn’t run a 4-3

They run a 3-4 like Steele has always run.

"Going to a 4-3"... will just mean that one of our down lineman will be converted to a strong-side DE. This should create more depth and talent at our DT positions.

This is my sole reason for being optimistic
