could make a top ten list and put arbitrary numbers on something, and if people think the players on the list are worthy, then I can call it "WLR" for waterlink ratings and apply it to every other player.

Like all man-made formulas, it’s subject to the biases of the creator and what they value/devalue.
For instances, passer rating in the NFL values preventing negative (completion percentage and int%) more than it value accomplishing positives (td% and ypa).
All these attempts to boil down a player’s value/contributions are futile.
