Anyone who has bought or built there in the last 7 or so years, they paid too much (I know that that is subjective, but they have a very good chance that their home values will never be what they paid for them when the boom ends)
This narrative has been going on for a decade now.
Lakeview will always have high value.
The reason? The point of this thread is why. In a city with a huge violent crime problem, the neighborhood is ready to riot because of non-violent break-ins (a large portion of which are unlocked cars).

.New Orleans ended the year 2019 with some seriously good news on the crime front: For the second year in a row, the number of killings in the city has fallen — and not by marginal numbers, either. Last year saw the lowest violent death toll in the city in nearly half a century.
In 2016, there were 174 killings in New Orleans. In 2017, that number dropped to 157. In 2018, it fell again, to 146. This past year, New Orleans had 119 homicides,

Break in's are wayyyyy up

Vehicle break-ins in New Orleans have surged about 160% since 2015, according to city statistics. City leaders are under even more pressure after more than 6,000 car burglaries were reported in 2019, a roughly 57% increase from 2018.

So if a car owner was to keep his pet rattlesnake or cottonmouth in the car, is that attempted murder?
Posted on 1/22/20 at 10:29 am to boudinman
If people would stop leaving their guns in their cars this wouldn’t be as big of an issue. If everyone stopped keeping valuables in their cars and kept them unlocked, it wouldn’t take long for the criminal element to realize there is nothing worth stealing in the area. Everyone would have to do it though

Tracking crime by murders is a good way to hide your problems.
The number of shootings in 2019 vs 2018 are nearly identical. People are just surviving more of those shootings.

They've already found enough guns that even if they didn't find one between now and next year there would still be break ins because of the low risk high reward factor. They will find electronics, purses, and whatever else of value.
It's easy pickings right now unless NOPD/LCPD double or triple the patrols which isn't doable long term

Yep. This is the answer. Petty criminals have been around since the beginning of time. You have to give them a reason not to come back. There was a run of a few months where we had a ton of smash and grabs in Algiers Point. We had a few meetings and finally got people to stop keeping shite in their cars for the most part and just leave your door unlocked. The break in have gone down significantly over here.

It’s amazing to me how transparent politicians can be sometimes. Obviously LaToya doesn’t give a shite and that’s the problem. Perhaps it’s time for Lakeview to pull a St. George.

I just see nothing about Lakeview, save for the truly walkable areas that justify $50 psf more than Metairie north of W Esplanade, and that's not even factoring in taxes and insurance hikes.
Bucktown prices are more ridiculous than Lakeview

I didnt demand I asked you....my stats were quotes from the news story that NOLA.com ran this morning.

In 2016 and 2017 the trauma team treated 345 to 394 gun shot victims from assaults. In 2018, the number was down to 266 and in 2019 the number was 247, but that's just through September.
Even with that Orleans decrease, the trauma team is still just as busy with violence, wrecks and falls, with an increase in trauma patients from the nine parish region and southern Mississippi.
Regionally, the number of gun shot victims is not going down.
"We still see 800 or 900 gun shot wounds a year, and that's been a fairly consistent number," Dr. Hunt said.

It's hard to feel sorry for Lakeview residents. For Orleans Parish, it likely has the lowest crime rates with the least dangerous types of crimes.
There is a 0% chance that the folks in higher crime areas will feel sorry for you or urge officials to redirect NOPD activity to you.
Lakeview is a suburb by any standard (as are Gentilly and NO East- but those have actual crime problems). Just move to Jefferson Parish and get it over with.
They have fast police response times, functioning infrastructure and responsive officials who won't laugh at you after pretending to care that you forgot to lock your car door overnight.
If you think the city will do anything for you, you are kidding yourself.

quote:its getting close but not quite. Bucktown new construction is about the same as west lakeview as far as listing price goes, but the sell price is still a little under. Lots and renovations are still cheaper in bucktown though. The real value in Metairie is between bonnabel and lake vista, north of a esplanade

quote:we had an isolated crime incident in our neighborhood. 2 days later we had a bbq at a neighbors house attended by 2 council persons and the parish president. We requested license plate readers at a few main entry points into the neighborhood (the same thing lakeview is asking for) and we had them a week later.

How are license plate readers going to prevent car burglaries? Serious question
