We're pretty much at the point now where PS4/Xbox are interchangeable. They mostly have the same games(PS4 has a bit more exclusives with the Japanese style of games and Xbox with their Halo's/Gears of War) and some are even becoming "cross-platform". I would say pick whichever online style you like better(Playstation network or Xbox Live) and which controller you like the best. I know that both have some 3rd party controllers that bridge the gap, but I've always been a fan of the xbox controller over the Playstation, to each their own I guess. Nintendo systems are geared more towards kids in some regards, but now that most of us have grown up on Mario and Zelda(or even Pokemon), I think the Nintendo systems are pretty fun. Being into sports games or FPS style, I'd go with either a PS or Xbox system. Keep in mind that there are new systems on the horizon, but no confirmed release dates yet.

That is WAY underselling PS4's exclusives advantage

The correct answer would be to wait until release dates for the PS5/Xbox Series X are announced. Odds are they will be backwards compatible with the previous gen anyway.

As per the part I highlighted, I disagree that they are interchangeable. Sony has far more exclusives this gen.

Third party games do run/look better on the One X than the PS4 Pro, but again, at this point, I couldn't justify buying either of those systems.
