Risky...what happens when you want to drop a recruit because he committed as a soph and sucked as a jr/sr? You still gonna stay committed to the kid?

Disagree. Dabo only has UGA to worry about in his region and no one in his conference is challenging him. Surrounded by Saban, Kiffin and Fisher, we do not have this luxury. They would do anything they could to swing a visit from a commit to force us to either drop them or prove we’re full of shite. It’s an unnecessary disadvantage in the much more competitive region we’re in.

Well that's part of it.

Dabo has been putting the commit back into commitments. It's a two way street.

The recruit has to abide by their rules, otherwise it isn't a commitment, you broke the bond, and you are out.

Clemson also has a responsibility- they will not accept the commitment unless they TOO are sure, will not process you, will not pull your offer.

They might offer many, but with that offer is a process. You can't accept on twitter. It's a sit down discussion and if they don't feel they are ready, they won't accept it and schedule the next sit down. If they feel the recruit isn't ready, same thing.

If you are #2 on their board and ask to commit, they will tell you #1 has until ______ date. If #1 won't do it. You get a sit down and then pull the trigger.

It's the marketing principle of 'exclusivity' by the way. The repurcussions for the recruit are once you are in, you're in. If you're out and break the rules, you're out. For Clemson, all this is based on the rules and it will all fall apart if they don't hold up their end of the bargain.

The strategy is based on the fact every team knows when offers go out (as Srs) who's the #1 guy they want. You could fill all 25 spots with your #1's. They target them, exclusively and then progress down the line with each slot. Instead of shotgun approach it's very focused and methodical.

The recruit knows where he stands. BUT, and this is the beauty of it, because of the focused/methodical approach- the recruits are on Clemson's timeline. If they are ready for #1 to pull the trigger, he doesn't. On to #2 with no looking back. That way, the recruit can't mess up or dictate strategy.

And let's be honest, you look at classes teams get- top teams- they are full of #2's. #2's are great. You can't predict that the near-5* 4* running back isn't going to be worse or better than the just above-4* 5*. So why bother. All that matters is that you get one of them, and that your not left holding bags.
