Getting a table after parades isn't as impossible as people are making it. It is definitely restaurant dependent.
Since you are a frenchman>bourbon person though you obviously know which restaurants those are.

Advice I was given;
1. Don’t go with gf/wife someone will say/do something that pisses you off.
2. Don’t wear/take anything you care if it gets lost/damaged.

Don’t forget to buy your tickets to the parades. I have a few extra I’d be willing to sell you

Get a weekend RTA pass and take the streetcar uptown if you want to get away from the crowds.

t is there a place close to the CBD that is good to watch the parades with a wife and 2 year old?
You can buy tickets for the stands by Gallier Hall, probably on their website. This is on St. Charles in the CBD and the stands are perfect for kids
Tons of food options around there as well including:
Tsunami sushi, Luke, Maypop, Copper Vine, Willa Jean, Borgne, Herbsaint, Domenica, Peche, Marcellos, and a lot more. Lower key options are Blaze Pizza, Company Burger, Magasin Poke Loa.
There's a Rouses in the South Market District (essentially the CBD) that served hot food and all the liquor you want and a new ice cream shop called Aqua S, which looks kinda interesting.

Thursday and Friday uptown and downtown are stacked with parades at night so factor that in on the rstaurant scene. Saturday night is the only night uptown does not have parades so everyting above Lee Circle will be good if you want to skip Endymian .....which a lot of people uptown will do
Frenchman area like the Marigny will be crazy but if you move down into Bywayer you can check out lots of cool places like Baccanal
