It's a kind of rock, like marble or granite. (I remember that much from good ol' LSU geology classes in Howe Russell.) I have no idea if it's any good for countertops or not.

I have it. It’s a Little bit harder than marble, not as hard as granite.
Treat it as if it were marble and expect the same characteristics as marble.
We went with it because it was much whiter than the Carrera that is available these days.
