How do you ban Pete Rose for life and do nothing to Stros?

They banned Pete Rose for life (no proof of throwing games) and the Stros Manager gets a slap on the wrist pretty much.

Braves old GM also got the ole lifetime ban

Because, for whatever reason, MLB has decided that gambling is thought of to be the worst thing you could ever do. I think most agree that Pete Rose still being banned from baseball is stupid.

They seriously let the Stros keep their world series after discovering they stole signs and leave Pete Rose out of the hall. What an embarrassment especially since sports gambling is becoming more accepted.

It may have something to do with gambling’s ties to organized crime and, oh yeah, the fact that there was a significant scandal involving gambling and throwing World Series games way back.
Rose also pissed i his own Cheerios by continually lying about what he did until evidence was presented.

Yeah , he just like lost his job . Is that a slap on the wrist ?

A year long suspension from MLB is a slap on the wrist compared to a life long ban. If he never gets a job it won’t be because MLB is holding him back from one.

We're not talking about Bill Belichick here, Hinch got the Sean Payton treatment

Astros were trying to win.
Pete was risking money and doing so outside legal action and therefore at risk for outside pressures.

Good question, might be too good for this board

Both the GM and coach got fired. Doubt either gets a job anytime soon in the majors. Maybe minor league or overseas

The MLB didn’t do that. You aren’t reading what I am saying. The MLB issued a 1 year suspension but Pete Rose has a lifetime ban.

Sign stealing has been part of the game since the inception of the breaking ball. The big no no was the use of electronics to aid in stealing the signs. That is where the Astros and Red Sox went wrong.
Also, supposedly the Astros management informed the MLB investigators detailed descriptions of how nearly all MLB teams use similar tactics.
We shall see if the MLB does anything to other organizations outside of Houston and Boston.

Because Rose broke the rule posted in every clubhouse that plainly says the penalty is a lifetime ban.

So you want them to vacate this? This isn’t the NCAA. When the NCAA does this, they make schools take down the banners and almost anyone of any sense is any agreement of how stupid that is.
I can listen to lifetime bans for people. I think taking away draft picks make sense. I think taking down banners is idiotic. You can’t change the past.

d) GAMBLING.
(1) Any player, umpire, or Club or League official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has no duty to perform, shall be declared ineligible for one year.
(2) Any player, umpire, or Club or League official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has a duty to perform, shall be declared permanently ineligible.
(3) Any player, umpire, or Club or League official or employee who places bets with illegal book makers, or agents for illegal book makers, shall be subject to such penalty as the Commissioner deems appropriate in light of the facts and circumstances of the conduct. Any player, umpire, or Club or League official or employee who operates or works for an illegal bookmaking business shall be subject to a minimum of a one-year suspension by the Commissioner. For purposes of this provision, an illegal bookmaker is an individual who accepts, places or handles wagers on sporting events from members of the public as part of a gaming operation that is unlawful in the jurisdiction in which the bets are accepted.
Read paragraph 3 especially That’s the rule that got him then he denied it after they saw the ledgers. He did affect games directly on games he bet in future as well.

This is a bad argument. Doesn't matter what the sentiments around sports betting are now, a player betting on the game today would probably get the same treatment as Rose. It's generally frowned upon to bet on the sport you are ACTIVELY participating in.
