quote:This will be sure to be met with backlash, but truth be told, Bernie probably isn’t the best debate matchup for Trump. Don’t get me wrong, I know Trump would still win an election between the two over 95% of the time. But as far as a debate goes, Bernie’s style is probably a worse matchup for trump than any of the other top 5 dems candidates.
A Trump vs Bernie debate
Trump’s #1 debate advantage over every contender he has thus far faced, primary and general election alike, has been his ability to reveal the absolute and unapologetic duplicity of his opponents. Whether it was the dynasty behind Jeb, the polish of Hilary, the energy of Rubio, or the brilliance of Cruz, Trump’s personality is perfectly calibrated to pull the veil back on their inner skeevy politician and thereby disconnect them from the voting population. Trump is his genuine self while 99% of politicians are pretending to be who they think you want them to be, and Trump’s personality reveals that 100% of the time. It gives him a massive, immediate advantage on every debate stage he steps onto.
But it’s one advantage he doesn’t have against Bernie. For all his crazy, nonsensical, unworkably batshit policies, the one thing Bernie unquestionably is is genuine. He truly believes the nonsense he’s uttering. And even though it is all nonsense, Bernie being a true believer still neutralizes the biggest advantage trump has had in every debate he’s had to date. Meaning trump will need to be on his A game to win a Bernie debate far moreso than would be required against Buttigieg or Warren or Biden.
Now all that said, Trump could lose every debate against Bernie and still win the election by 200 electoral votes because only the far fringe is going to vote for a socialist when we’re in the middle of arguably the greatest economics run of the last 50 years. But still, as far as the debates would go, I think Bernie would be the worst personality matchup for Trump up on the stage.

quote:I just don’t think Bernie will be there to go tit for tat with Trump, and Trump thrives on that. Bernie will explain his policies, and reasoning, and he’ll be nice while doing so, and will make Trump look bad to a lot of independents if he engages on the Trump level. The media being who they are won’t help Trump either since they still have a lot of subtle influence.

Notice when Bernie said he didn’t want to talk about Hillary’s damn emails. He could’ve killed her on that issue, but he wasn’t there to kill her on that issue, and that’s what Trump is up against. Bernie wins if he talks like he’s the only podium on that stage.
