This has become such a tired, cliche response. Just look at the widening wage gap between blue collar wages and executive pay. Visit some factories out there that cut corners on employee safety. There is still a need for unions.

Management shares equal blame for the state of the US auto industry. They sat on their hands in the 80's and early 90's when more fuel efficient Japanese built cars started flooding the market. They were way too slow to respond to the move to more fuel efficient cars, which is inexcusable after the 70's gas crisis. Government shares some blame as well with NAFTA, which saw several US plants get moved to Mexico and cheaper labor.

Not all Unions are the same. The strength of a Union is it’s membership. I was in one for 40 years. Our Union did not offer a retirement like some. You learn from living. I knew nothing aboutUnions until I worked in one.
