I actually think that stat is more telling that you might imagine.

I mean, Brennan hasn't really gotten a TON of mop-up time this year. So...what are some possible reasons Joe playing so little in the 4th?

1. Because our D is so unmotivated at that point, they have trouble getting off the field?

2. Our D is gassed from being on the field the whole game after the 90 second, 80 yard drives by the O?
If this is the case, would we not see a corresponding first half time of possession disparity? Maybe there is one. I don't know.

I'm not being an arse. I think our D probaby fares better when there is a more evenly matched opponent. Captain Obvious but...it's a lot easier to keep your focus when you aren't up by 35 points at half. Regardless that gives me a lot of hope for Monday, even though stopping Etienne makes me a little nervous. I think it says that we have some pretty decent reserves to draw from.

1. Offense goes conservative and gets a bunch of 3 and outs
2. Offense scores on 3 play drives

I'm not exactly sure what picture these stats paint but these are the numbers.

In the first, second, third and fourth quarters our defense gave up 50, 53, 61, and 64 first downs respectively.

So the 4th is technically the worst for our defense, whatever the motivation for that is..

On the other end of the spectrum, our offense is somewhat similar in that it performs the worst in the 4th as well.
1st downs are 93, 121, 99, and a whopping 54.
Most of that being a difference in passing since we're usually just trying to run out the clock. only 705 passing yards.. whereas the other quarters produced 1479, 1984, and 1393.

Rushing was similary dissapointing. With only 27 first downs compared to 36, 35, and 43.

Interestingly the rush defense really slacks off in the 3rd quarter.. Allowing 5.6 yards/rush when we hover around half that the other quarters. Our pass defense apparently cracks down though and allows an impressive 45 percent completion percentage (compared to 49, 51, and 56 in the other quarters)..

All in all.. We're definitely a better first half team.. I'm sure that is partly due to the fact that we're usually dominating in the second and we do slack on defense a little and become more predictable with shorter drives.

We leave Joe in at through the last drive of the 3rd for Rhythm purposes if the game is away.
