It was the same with literature. All US music, art and literature was considered inferior because it was. That's why the rich in the US sent their kids on 'The Grand Tour'.
Hell, the US didn't have a great novelist until Mark Twain and that was 100 years after the founding.

I personally prefer America the beautiful. If somebody said it should be our national anthem instead of the Star-Spangled Banner I would be enthusiastic
